CHINMAYA EDUCATIONAL MOVEMENT :
The Chinmaya Education Movement is one of the most important contributions of Chinmaya Mission to society. It encompasses over 80 Vidyalayas, 8 Colleges, a Harihar School and an International Residential School. The institutions are governed by the CCMT Education Cell and are built on the foundation of the Chinmaya Vision Programme. Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda was a great visionary. He knew that children are the cream of our generation and are the rulers and makers of tomorrow. Upon them depends the future of our nation. He said, “I am sure that the Chinmaya Education Movement will serve as a spiritual workshop to mould and march – out the new generation of men and women, who will grow to have great moral stature and ethical beauty”.
This strong foundation for the future of India had its humble beginning at Kollengode – Kerala, way back in 1967 with a nursery school. Since then tens of thousands of ‘lamps’ have been lit, and numberless hearts have been kindled. In about 40 years, over a million students have graduated from the Chinmaya educational institutions. Presently, more than 75,000 students are studying in them. They are guided by dedicated teams of over 5000 faculty members and are ably supported by about 1000 administrative staff. Every year, more than 10,000 children join the institutions and about the same number pass out as young men and women of high character and integrity. This vast network of the Chinmaya Educational Movement thus significantly nourishes the global Chinmaya Family and the society at large.
We have excellent infrastructure with up to date equipment which enables effective teaching. Schools in rural areas cater to the needs of the local people. These institutions are headed by inspired Principals, dedicated teachers, supportive management and cooperative parents. Co-curricular and extracurricular activities form an essential part of the learning process. The Chinmaya Vidyalayas are truly “schools with a difference”.
The Chinmaya Vidyalaya at Chengannur is located in Chinmaya Nagar near Sri Mahadeva Temple in the heart of the town. The school is owned by Chinmaya Seva Trust, Kerala, Thrissur. It is affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi and has classes from LKG to Standard XII. The medium of instruction is English. Hindi, Malayalam, and Sanskrit are also taught as second and third languages. The School is governed by a Governing Body constituted by CSTK consisting of eminent personalities who have got rich experience in the educational field.
